Daxxify vs Jeuveau

One was launched on lasting longer, the other on costing less. What each was actually tested against, and which claim has the stronger evidence behind it.

At a Glance

Daxxify and Jeuveau are both botulinum toxin type A, and both are approved in the US for frown lines between the eyebrows.

They were built around opposite selling points. Daxxify was launched on lasting longer. Jeuveau was launched on costing less. Neither claim tells you much about how the result will look.

The evidence behind them is not equal, though, and it is not equal in a way most comparisons miss. Jeuveau was tested directly against Botox in a large trial built for that purpose. Daxxify's main trials were against a placebo only. That does not make Jeuveau better — but it does mean one of these products has been through a large head-to-head against an established competitor and the other has not.

What it is

Botulinum toxin type A

Approved in the US in 2022, by Revance.

Botulinum toxin type A

Approved in the US in 2019, by Evolus.

What it is approved to treat

Frown lines, plus cervical dystonia
Frown lines only

Jeuveau is a cosmetic-only product in the US. It has no FDA approval for any medical condition.

Both
Neither is approved in the US for forehead lines or crow's feet.

The dose for frown lines

40 units, in 5 injections of 8 units
20 units, in 5 injections of 4 units
Both
The unit counts are not comparable between brands. Daxxify is not twice as strong; it is measured on a different scale.

What else is in the vial

A stabilising peptide, no albumin

The only one of the main brands with no human blood protein in it.

Human serum albumin

A protein complex of about 900 kDa around the toxin.

What it was tested against

Placebo

The two main trials compared Daxxify against an inactive injection. An earlier, smaller study did compare it with Botox, but it was designed to choose a dose rather than to settle which works better.

Botox, head to head

A large trial compared Jeuveau directly against Botox at the standard dose.

Both
This is the clearest difference between them, and it is about evidence rather than about results.

How long it lasts

Trials reported a median of about 24 weeks

Half the people treated still had none-or-mild frown lines at that point.

No duration figure published

Jeuveau's label states no duration, and its trials measured the result at fixed dates rather than following people until it wore off.

Both
Injectors generally quote three to four months for toxins in this class, but for Jeuveau that is clinical custom rather than a trial result. Daxxify's figure and Dysport's label wording are also not the same grade of evidence — Daxxify's label gives no duration either, and the 24-week number comes from its maker's own pooled analysis.

What it costs

Launched at a premium

The price was cut within about a year.

Positioned as the value option
Both
Ask for the cost of the whole treatment. Per-unit prices cannot be compared when one product uses 40 units and the other uses 20.

Who tends to be happy with it

Best for
People who want the fewest visits a year and will pay for the chance of a longer gap.
The mindset
Convenience over cost.
Best for
People who want a straightforward result at a lower price.
The mindset
Cost matters, and three to four months is fine.
Both
Both treat the same lines with the same kind of molecule.

The evidence gap, explained plainly

Jeuveau's main trial gave one group Jeuveau, one group Botox, and one group a placebo. Both real products beat the placebo by a wide margin, and Jeuveau performed comparably to Botox.

One important caveat: that trial was designed to show Jeuveau was not worse than Botox, not to show it was better. Jeuveau's number came out slightly higher than Botox's. That gap is not a win — the trial was not built to detect one, and reporting it as "Jeuveau beat Botox" misreads the study.

Daxxify's main trials compared it against an inactive injection. That is enough to earn FDA approval, and it tells you Daxxify works. It does not tell you how Daxxify stacks up against anything else on the market. There was an earlier study that included Botox as a comparison, but it was a smaller, dose-finding study — built to pick a dose, not to measure which product performs better or lasts longer.

About the duration claim

Daxxify's six-month reputation comes from its own trials, where half the people treated still had frown lines rated none or mild at about 24 weeks.

That is a genuine finding. What it is not is a comparison — no trial has put Daxxify against Jeuveau, and the two products' numbers came from studies that judged results at different moments. Anyone quoting "six months versus three" is combining figures that were never meant to sit in the same sentence.

The market gave its own verdict, for what it is worth: the premium price did not hold, and it was reduced within roughly a year of launch.

Worth asking before you book

  • What does the whole treatment cost, start to finish?
  • Which brand, and how many units?
  • Have you used this brand on this area before?
  • Is a two-week check included if one side sits higher?

Get emergency help now if

  • You have trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing
  • You feel weakness spreading to muscles you did not have treated

Go to an emergency department or call 911. Do not wait for a call back. These are rare, but they are the symptoms named in the FDA boxed warning that every botulinum toxin product carries, deaths have been reported, and they can begin hours or even weeks after treatment.

Call your injector if

  • One eyelid or eyebrow starts to droop, or your vision changes
  • One side sits noticeably higher than the other at two weeks

If a vision change is sudden or severe, seek urgent care rather than waiting.

Questions people ask+
Does Daxxify really last twice as long as Jeuveau? There is no trial comparing the two, so that claim cannot be checked. A published analysis of Daxxify's trials reported a median of about 24 weeks — half the people treated still had none-or-mild frown lines at that point. Jeuveau's label gives no duration figure at all. Those are different measurements from different studies.
Which one is cheaper?Jeuveau was launched as the value option and generally prices below the premium brands. Daxxify launched high and cut its price within about a year. Compare the cost of the whole treatment, not the price per unit — Daxxify uses 40 units and Jeuveau uses 20, so per-unit prices are meaningless side by side.
Is Jeuveau just a cheaper Botox? It is a different product made by a different company, and it was tested directly against Botox in a large trial where it performed comparably. In the US it is approved for cosmetic use only.
Why does Daxxify need 40 units and Jeuveau only 20?Each brand measures units with its own laboratory method. The numbers are not on the same scale and cannot be converted. A higher unit count does not mean a stronger product.
Is either approved for forehead lines? No. In the United States both are approved only for the frown lines between the eyebrows.
Does Daxxify contain human blood products? No. It is stabilised with a lab-made peptide instead of human serum albumin. Jeuveau contains albumin, as most brands do.
