Comparison

Profhilo vs Restylane vs Teoxane

Profhilo is a skin booster for texture and firmness. Restylane and Teoxane are fillers that add volume. How they compare, and which one to pick.

At a Glance

Profhilo is better for skin that looks dull, thin or a little loose. It is a gel that spreads under the skin to improve texture and firmness, given over two visits a month apart. Restylane and Teoxane fillers are better for a hollow or a fold you can point to. They hold their shape and add volume exactly where they are placed. Restylane and Teoxane sit together here because both are ranges of traditional filler, while Profhilo is a skin booster and a different category.

Profhilo
Also called bioremodelling, hybrid hyaluronic acid, HA bioremodelling
Restylane and Teoxane
Also called Teosyal, RHA, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Kysse, Redensity

What it does

Improves skin quality

A gel of hyaluronic acid that spreads out under the skin instead of staying put. It works on hydration, texture and mild looseness.

Adds volume in one place

A firmer gel that stays where it is put. It lifts a cheek, fills a fold, or shapes a lip.

Where it goes

Five points on each side

Set points along the cheek, jaw and chin. The neck, hands and chest can be treated too.

Wherever the problem is

Cheeks, smile lines, lips, chin, jawline, under the eyes. Placement is planned face by face.

How long until you see it

Four to six weeks

Skin often looks brighter within a week or two. The firmness builds after that, and needs both sessions.

Straight away

You see the change before you leave the room. Swelling settles over the following week or two.

How long it lasts

Six to twelve months

Most people repeat it once or twice a year.

Six to eighteen months

Soft gels in mobile areas like lips fade fastest. Firmer gels in the cheek last longest.

How many visits

Two, four weeks apart

That pair of visits is the course. Top-ups later are usually a single visit.

Often one

A review two weeks later is common, and a small top-up may be added then.

What it will not do

It will not fill a hollow

Profhilo does not add contour. If your cheek has lost volume, this will not put it back.

It will not change skin quality

Filler can make a face look fuller while the skin on top still looks dull or crepey.

What it feels like

About ten quick stings

Small bumps like mosquito bites sit at each point afterwards. They flatten within a day or two.

Pressure more than pain

Most gels contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, so the sting eases within seconds.

Downtime and side effects

Bruising, redness, small bumps

Usually gone inside 48 hours. Most people go back to work the same day.

Bruising and swelling

Swelling in the lips can last several days. Bruising is the most common complaint.

Both
With any injectable, the rare serious risk is product entering a blood vessel. Who injects you matters more than which brand they use.

Can it be undone

Yes
Yes
Both
Both are hyaluronic acid, so an enzyme called hyaluronidase dissolves them. That is a real advantage over permanent products and over collagen stimulators like Sculptra.

Cost

Priced as a course of two

Ask for the price of both sessions together, not one.

Priced per syringe

The total depends on how many syringes you need. Two areas often means two syringes.

The at-home or drugstore version

No home version exists

A hyaluronic acid serum sits on the surface and holds water in the top layer for a few hours. Profhilo is placed a few millimetres down, in the layer where collagen lives. The serum is not a weaker version of it. It is a different thing.

Nothing comes close

No cream fills a fold. Products sold as "filler in a bottle" swell the surface slightly for a few hours, then stop. That is a different thing wearing the same name.

Who each suits

Best for
Skin that looks tired, thin or crepey, plus mild looseness.
The mindset
You want to look fresher, not different.
Best for
A hollow, fold or feature you can point at in the mirror.
The mindset
You want a visible change, and you want it now.

Restylane and Teoxane are ranges, not products

Neither name refers to a single syringe: Restylane makes more than a dozen gels. Teoxane's filler line is sold as Teosyal, and includes the RHA and Redensity families. Each gel has a different thickness and a different job.

The gap between the two brands is smaller than most people expect: Both are hyaluronic acid. Both dissolve. Both last roughly the same time in the same area of the face.

The gel your injector picks matters more than the logo on the box: A soft gel for lips and a firm one for cheekbones behave very differently, and both brands make both.

Both brands also sell a skin booster

If Profhilo is on your list, you may want a skin booster rather than a filler: Restylane makes Skinboosters, and Teoxane makes Redensity I. These are thin hyaluronic acid gels put into the skin in many tiny deposits to improve hydration and fine lines.

Those are the closer comparison to Profhilo: Comparing Profhilo to a cheek filler compares two treatments that were never meant to do the same job.

The practical difference is the number of injections: Profhilo uses about ten points on the face. Skin boosters use dozens of small ones, and usually run as a course of three sessions.

Has anyone compared them directly

No trial has put Profhilo head to head against Restylane or Teoxane: The research behind each one measures it against how the skin looked before, not against a rival product. Most of those studies are small.

That is standard across aesthetic injectables: It does mean that claims one brand is better than another come from clinic experience rather than from a comparison.

Before you book

Ask which category you are being offered. "Skin booster" and "filler" do very different jobs.

Ask for the total cost of the plan, not the price of one visit.

If you are told you need both, ask which one to do first and why.

Ask what happens if you dislike it. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved, and you want to hear that said out loud.

Bring a photo of yourself from a few years ago rather than a photo of someone else.

Questions people ask

+
Is Profhilo a filler? No. It is hyaluronic acid, like filler, but it spreads out under the skin instead of holding a shape. It improves texture and firmness rather than adding volume.
Which is better, Profhilo or Restylane? They do different jobs. Profhilo is better for skin that looks dull, thin or slightly loose. Restylane is better when you want to fill a hollow or reshape a feature.
Can I have Profhilo and filler at the same time?Yes, and many people do. Most injectors space them out by a couple of weeks so any swelling settles and they can judge each result on its own.
Is Teoxane the same as Teosyal?Teoxane is the company. Teosyal is the name on its fillers, which include the RHA and Redensity ranges. People use both words for the same products.
How long does Profhilo take to work?Skin often looks brighter within one to two weeks. The firming effect builds over four to six weeks and needs both sessions to show properly.
Can Profhilo be dissolved?Yes. It is hyaluronic acid, so hyaluronidase breaks it down. It is rarely needed, because Profhilo does not change your shape.
