Restylane Kysse vs Juvederm
Restylane Kysse is a lip filler and nothing else. It is a soft, stretchy gel built to move with your mouth, so it suits people who want fullness nobody can point to. Juvéderm is a family of fillers, and two of them are made for lips. Juvéderm Ultra gives clearer, fuller volume, and Juvéderm Volbella gives a subtle finish much like Kysse. All of them are hyaluronic acid, so any of them can be dissolved if you dislike the result.
What it is
A single gel, sold for the lips and the fine lines just above them.
Volbella is the softest, then Ultra, up to Voluma for cheeks. Only Ultra and Volbella are lip products.
What it looks like in a lip
It adds size without a hard edge, which is why it is a common first treatment.
Ultra reads as clearly fuller. Volbella reads as barely changed.
How it behaves when you talk
The gel is made to bend, so it moves as the mouth moves.
That gives a firmer lip border and slightly less give.
How much is used
Half a syringe is a sensible first treatment.
How long it lasts
Lips move all day, so lip filler fades faster than filler anywhere else.
Volbella is a thinner gel used in smaller amounts, so it goes sooner.
Can it be undone
Side effects to expect
Lips swell more than any other area. Plan for two or three rough days.
Same list. Lumps in a lip are usually a placement issue and can be dissolved.
Cost
Some clinics sell a half syringe, which is worth asking about for a first treatment.
The thick cheek gels in the family cost more, but the two lip products sit in the same range as Kysse.
The at-home or drugstore version
Plumping glosses use mild irritants such as cinnamon or menthol. They swell the surface for under an hour. Kysse is gel placed inside the lip.
Same limit. A hyaluronic acid lip balm holds water on the surface and eases dryness, but it adds no size.
Who each suits
"Juvéderm" is not one thing
Asking for Juvéderm in your lips is not a complete request: The family runs from thin gels to very firm ones, and each is built for a different part of the face.
For lips it comes down to Ultra or Volbella: Ultra is the fuller, more obvious option. Volbella is thin and soft, and is also used on the fine vertical lines above the lip.
Kysse sits between the two: It gives real fullness like Ultra, with a softer, more flexible feel closer to Volbella.
The gel matters less than most people think
All three are hyaluronic acid with a numbing agent mixed in: The injection feels much the same, the swelling is much the same, and the same enzyme removes any of them.
Where the gel goes changes your result more than the label does: How much, how deep and what shape are decided by the person holding the syringe.
A clinic that stocks only one of these brands is not doing anything wrong: Most injectors get better results with the products they use every week.
Has anyone compared them directly
No trial has put Kysse against a Juvéderm lip product: Each filler is tested against a control group or against an older gel from its own maker, not against a rival brand.
So claims that one gives better lips come from clinic experience: That is worth something. It is not a comparison.
What neither one does
Neither one smooths a deep line above the lip on its own: A line set into the skin usually needs resurfacing as well as gel.
Neither one relaxes the muscle around the mouth: A lip that vanishes when you smile is a movement problem, and botulinum toxin is what works on muscle.
Neither one changes the distance from your nose to your lip: That is bone and skin, not volume.
Before you book
Say how you want your lips to look rather than naming a brand.
Ask how much gel is planned, in millilitres, and what the total costs.
Ask to see that injector's own photos of lips at two weeks, not on the day.
Book at least two weeks before anything social. Lips bruise and swell.
Check the clinic keeps hyaluronidase on site.
