How to use it
  • When: Every morning, as the last step in your skincare.How much: About 1/4 teaspoon for the face. Most people use too little. Where: Face, ears, neck, and hairline. Reapply: Every 2 hours outdoors, and after sweating or swimming. It is water-resistant for 40 minutes, so it is not a swimming sunscreen. White cast: This is an untinted mineral formula and can leave an ashy or white cast on deeper skin tones.

It still leaves a cast. La Roche-Posay's own dermatologist consultant says so on the product page — mineral filters "can leave an ashy, purple or white cast on some skin tones." Honest of them, and true. On deeper skin tones, expect it.

It pills over some moisturizers. Let your moisturizer absorb fully first.

It is $40-plus for 1.7 oz — expensive for a mineral sunscreen, and Vanicream's does much the same job for a third of the price if you can live with a heavier feel.
