Salicylic acid in a rinse-off wash has weaker evidence than benzoyl peroxide in a wash. Benzoyl peroxide stays in the pore after you rinse; salicylic acid has no equivalent story, and the trials are small.
That does not make it useless. A stated 2% dose in a regulated drug is more trustworthy than a cosmetic that hides its concentration. But there is little reason to prefer a salicylic acid wash over a leave-on salicylic acid product.
Menthol is worth flagging. It creates a cooling tingle that can feel like the product is working, but it has no acne benefit and can irritate skin that is already inflamed.

This is a real over-the-counter drug with a real, disclosed active: salicylic acid 2%. It carries a Drug Facts panel, which means the concentration is regulated and stated — and that is a meaningfully stronger footing than a cosmetic "SA cleanser" that hides its dose.
2% is the studied concentration. There is a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of a 2% salicylic acid cleanser showing real reductions in acne lesions over eight weeks.
No added fragrance, and it foams and cleans properly.
It contains menthol — and this is almost certainly why so many people report it stinging. Menthol creates a cooling sensation that reads as "working." It has no acne benefit whatsoever, and on inflamed or already-irritated skin it is a straightforward irritant.
