It discloses its concentrations, and almost nobody else here does. 2% ceramides, 4% cholesterol, 2% fatty acids — actual numbers, printed on the box. That deserves real credit in a category built on vagueness.

And the ratio is the right way round. Cholesterol-dominant is what the underlying barrier-repair research actually supports — the 1997 study everyone misquotes found that barrier recovery only accelerated when cholesterol was the dominant lipid, and that a fatty-acid-dominant mix made it worse. SkinCeuticals appears to have read the paper. Most brands citing it clearly have not.

It is a rich, effective cream and dry skin does well on it.

Those are scenting essential oils, and linalool and limonene are declared fragrance allergens — the EU requires them to be named precisely because people react to them. Both oxidize on contact with air and become more allergenic over time.

This is the single most defensible criticism of this product, and it is not a technicality. If you are buying a $155 barrier-repair cream, you are probably buying it because your barrier is compromised — which is exactly the skin most likely to react to essential oils.

$155 for 1.6 oz. You can buy ceramide, cholesterol and fatty-acid creams for under $20 — Illiyoon's is around $22 for a much larger tube. The lipid ratio here is better reasoned. It is not $135 better reasoned.
