Comparison

Juvederm vs Rejuran

Juvederm fills a hollow the same day and dissolves. Rejuran uses polynucleotides to improve skin texture over three visits and adds no volume.

At a Glance

Juvéderm is for volume you can point at. It is a hyaluronic acid gel that fills a lip, a cheek or a fold on the day, lasts roughly a year, and can be dissolved if you change your mind. Rejuran is for the surface of the skin. It uses polynucleotides, fragments of salmon DNA, to improve texture and fine lines across three visits, and it adds no volume at all. They fix different complaints, so the choice is usually easy once you name yours.

Juvéderm
Also called HA filler, dermal filler, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Ultra
Rejuran
Also called polynucleotide, PN, PDRN, salmon DNA, Rejuran Healer, Rejuran HB
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler. It is placed with a needle or a blunt cannula.
Rejuran is injected in small amounts across the area. It is usually done as a series of visits.

What is in the syringe

Hyaluronic acid gel

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar your skin already makes. The gel holds a space open.

Polynucleotides from salmon DNA

Purified DNA fragments. Not a filler, and no volume.

What it improves

Shape and volume

Thin lips, flat cheeks, a weak chin, a deep fold beside the nose. It changes the outline of your face.

Texture and repair

Rough texture, fine lines, shallow acne scars, large pores and skin that reacts to everything.

What it will not do

It will not smooth rough skin

A filled cheek can still look dull and uneven on the surface.

It will not fill a hollow

A flat cheek stays flat. A thin lip stays thin.

When you see the result

The same day

Swelling settles over about two weeks and the look settles with it.

Two to four weeks, building for three months

Nothing changes on the day. Texture improves first, then fine lines.

How many visits

Usually one

A top-up later if you want more.

Usually three

Spaced three to four weeks apart, then one session every six to twelve months.

How long it lasts

Roughly a year

Longer in the cheek, shorter in the lips, because the lips move constantly.

Six to twelve months

It is a maintenance treatment. Skin drifts back if you stop.

Can it be undone

Yes

Hyaluronidase dissolves it, usually within a day or two.

Nothing to remove

There is no material left sitting there, so there is nothing to dissolve. It simply wears off.

What it feels like

A few injections, numbed

Most Juvéderm products contain a numbing agent already.

Many small pinpricks

Spread across the whole area, so it takes longer and is the less comfortable of the two. Small bumps flatten within a day or two.

Side effects to expect

Bruising, swelling, tenderness

Lumps and unevenness happen, and they can be dissolved.

Bruising, swelling, small bumps

Marks at each injection point for a day or two. Plan a few clear days.

Both
With Juvéderm the serious risk is rare and shared by all fillers: gel entering a blood vessel. Rejuran carries no such risk, because nothing is placed deep enough to block a vessel.

Cost

Priced per syringe

Easy to total up front. Repeat visits add up over the years.

Priced per session, and you need three

Ask for the cost of the full course rather than one visit.

The at-home or drugstore version

A hyaluronic acid serum

A serum holds water in the top layer for a few hours. Filler goes millimetres down.

Salmon DNA creams are a different thing

Topical products with these ingredients exist and feel pleasant. Injected polynucleotides are placed inside the skin, which a cream cannot do.

They are not really competitors

Juvéderm changes the shape of your face: It is placed where volume is missing and holds that space. Someone looking at you sees a fuller cheek or a fuller lip.

Rejuran changes the surface of your skin: It is spread through the skin itself, a few millimetres down, and the aim is a smoother, less fragile surface. Nobody sees a change in shape.

Plenty of people have both, at separate visits: One for structure and one for skin quality is a common plan, and they do not overlap.

Reversibility is worth understanding here

Juvéderm can be taken back out: If it looks wrong or moves, hyaluronidase dissolves it in a day or two. That is the strongest argument for it as a first injectable.

Rejuran has nothing to take out: No gel is left sitting in the tissue, so a result you dislike simply fades. That is not the same as being reversible, but it does mean there is no lump to remove.

Neither one traps you: Between them, this pair is about as low-commitment as injectables get.

Where these are used

Rejuran is not approved in the United States for these uses: It is widely used in Korea and in several other countries. Some US clinics offer it anyway. It is fair to ask a clinic what they use and where it comes from.

What neither one does

Neither one softens a frown line or crow's feet: Those come from muscle movement, and botulinum toxin is the treatment that works on muscle.

Neither one tightens loose skin: Filler adds volume and Rejuran improves the surface. If sagging is your main complaint, energy devices or surgery are the honest answer.

Has anyone compared them directly

No trial has put Juvéderm against Rejuran: They are measured on different things, so a fair comparison would struggle to pick a single yardstick. Any claim that one beats the other comes from clinic experience.

Before you book

Describe the problem rather than naming a product. A hollow points one way, rough skin points the other.

Ask for the total cost, including every session in a Rejuran course.

Ask how many injection points to expect, so the bumps afterwards are not a surprise.

Leave a clear week before anything social. Both can bruise.

If a clinic suggests both, ask which to do first and why.
