Radiesse vs Voluma
Voluma is the better choice for cheek volume, and for anyone who wants a way out. It is a firm hyaluronic acid gel that lifts the mid-face the same day and can be dissolved. Radiesse is the better choice for a defined jawline, chin or the backs of the hands. It gives volume on the day and then builds collagen, but it cannot be dissolved. If this is your first injectable, that difference should weigh heavily.
What is in the syringe
Calcium hydroxylapatite is the same mineral found in bone. The gel carrier fades and the collagen it triggers takes over.
A firmly cross-linked gel. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar your skin already makes.
What it is used for
Jawline, chin, temples and the backs of the hands. It is stiff, so it holds a defined line.
The mid-face. It is designed to sit deep over the cheekbone and lift the tissue above it.
What happens over time
Fuller straight away, a little less full at around two months, then better again as collagen forms.

That is why the two behave differently in month three: Voluma looks the same as it did in week two. Radiesse can look flatter for a while, then improve again.
Reversibility is the deciding fact for a first-timer
Voluma can be taken back out: If it is too much, sits wrong or ages badly, an injector can dissolve it in a day or two.
Radiesse cannot be taken back out: There is no antidote, and lumps in this product are the reason that matters. The plan for a poor result is to wait it out.
Lasting longer only helps if you like the result: Starting with a hyaluronic acid gel is the low-risk way to learn what suits your face.
Neither one is a substitute for the other
Radiesse in a cheek is a real option, but a different look: It is stiffer, so it reads as structure rather than softness, and some faces do not suit that in the mid-face.
Voluma along a jawline is also done, and it holds well: The choice there often comes down to how sharp an edge you want and whether reversibility matters to you.
Many people end up with both, in different places: One for the cheek and one for the jaw is a common plan.
What neither one does
Neither one tightens loose skin: Both add volume, and volume added to lax skin usually looks heavy rather than lifted.
Neither one softens a frown line or crow's feet: Those come from muscle movement, and botulinum toxin is the treatment that works on muscle.
Has anyone compared them directly
Not in a way that settles it: Each product has its own studies, usually against a comparison filler in one area. Nobody has run Radiesse against Voluma in the same face and measured which wins, so claims that one beats the other come from clinic experience.
