Harmonyca vs Sculptra

Harmonyca lifts the jawline on the day, then builds collagen. Sculptra shows nothing for months and treats broad volume loss. Neither can be undone.

At a Glance

HArmonyCa gives lift on the day and then builds collagen. It is a hybrid injectable, part hyaluronic acid gel and part calcium, usually done in one appointment and aimed at the jawline and lower face. Sculptra gives nothing on the day and builds collagen slowly. It is poly-L-lactic acid, spread across broad areas over a course of two or three visits. Neither one can be fully dissolved, so neither can be undone.

HArmonyCa
Also called hyaluronic acid plus calcium hydroxylapatite, hybrid filler
Sculptra
Also called poly-L-lactic acid, PLLA, Sculptra Aesthetic

What is in the syringe

Two materials in one gel

Hyaluronic acid for volume now, plus calcium hydroxylapatite particles that prompt collagen later.

One material

Poly-L-lactic acid, the same material used in dissolvable stitches. It has no volume of its own.

What you see on the day

Some lift, straight away

The hyaluronic acid part works immediately, the way any filler does.

Nothing

Any fullness on the day is swelling. Looking unchanged a week later is what is supposed to happen.

How the result develops

Lift now, collagen over months

The gel part fades over months as the collagen builds behind it, so the look holds rather than dropping.

A slow build only

Three to six months from the last session before you can judge it.

Where it is used

Mid and lower face

Jawline, the corners of the mouth and the sag in front of the jowl. It is chosen for a defined lower face.

Broad areas

Hollow cheeks, temples and overall facial thinning. Also used on the body, such as crepey skin above the knees.

How many visits

Usually one

Sometimes a review a few months later.

Usually two or three

Spaced about a month apart. It is a course, not an appointment.

How long it lasts

Around a year to eighteen months
About two years
Both
Both are averages. Your age, how much collagen you make and how much product was used all change the number.

Can it be undone

Only partly

Hyaluronidase can dissolve the hyaluronic acid half. The calcium half stays, so treat it as not reversible.

No

There is no enzyme for it. A result you dislike has to be waited out.

Aftercare

Usual filler aftercare

Avoid heat and hard exercise for a day or two. Some injectors ask you to massage the area.

Massage, and a lot of it

Many injectors ask for five minutes, five times a day, for five days.

Side effects to expect

Bruising, swelling, firmness

Small lumps are the specific complaint, and the calcium part of a lump cannot be dissolved.

Bruising, swelling, tenderness

Small lumps again, uncommon, and they can appear months later.

Both
The serious risk is rare and shared by both: product entering a blood vessel. Who injects you matters more than which product they use.

Cost

Priced per syringe, usually one visit

Easier to total up front.

Priced per vial, across a course

Ask what the whole plan costs, not what one session costs.

The at-home or drugstore version

There is not one

No cream carries a gel or calcium particles under the skin. A hyaluronic acid serum plumps the surface for a few hours and stops there.

There is not one

Collagen drinks and collagen creams share the word and not the mechanism. Neither builds collagen in a chosen spot.

Who each suits

Best for
A softening jawline, when you want to see something now.
The mindset
You want one appointment and a defined edge.
Best for
Volume loss across the whole face, and someone happy to wait.
The mindset
You want gradual change nobody can point to.

Both are collagen stimulators, but only one fills as well

Sculptra is a pure stimulator: It adds no volume itself. The material breaks down and leaves, and what you keep is collagen your own skin made.

HArmonyCa does both jobs at once: The hyaluronic acid half acts as an ordinary filler on the day, and the calcium half does the slower collagen work behind it.

That difference decides who each one suits: If looking unchanged for three months is a problem, Sculptra will be a frustrating choice.

Neither one is reversible in the way filler is

A plain hyaluronic acid filler can be removed: Hyaluronidase dissolves it in a day or two, which is why it is the low-risk way to start.

Sculptra has no antidote at all: The plan for a poor result is to wait, and the wait runs into years.

HArmonyCa is only half reversible: Dissolving the gel half will not remove the calcium particles. If you are nervous, that puts it closer to Sculptra than to filler.

Availability differs

HArmonyCa is a newer product and is not offered everywhere: Sculptra has been in use for far longer and is easy to find. It is worth asking whether a clinic actually stocks HArmonyCa before you build a plan around it.

What neither one does

Neither one tightens loose skin: They add volume and collagen. If sagging is the main complaint, energy devices or surgery are the honest answer.

Neither one softens a frown line or crow's feet: Those come from muscle movement, and botulinum toxin is the treatment that works on muscle.

Has anyone compared them directly

No trial has put HArmonyCa against Sculptra: Each has its own studies measuring faces before and after. Any claim that one beats the other comes from clinic experience rather than a comparison.

Before you book

Say whether you can wait three months for a result. That alone narrows the choice.

Ask what the full plan costs, including any second session.

Ask what happens if you dislike it. For both, the honest answer involves waiting.

Ask how many times the injector has used that product in your area.

If this is your first injectable, ask whether a plain hyaluronic acid filler would answer the same complaint.
