Adults with perioral dermatitis used either pimecrolimus (a steroid-free anti-inflammatory cream) or a plain cream with no active drug. The pimecrolimus group improved more and faster over four weeks. The benefit was clearest in people whose rash had followed the use of topical steroids. This supports steroid-free creams as one treatment option.
